JAPAN SUPERNATURAL EXCLUSIVE LAUNCH
On the evening of Friday, November 1st, a plethora of Australia’s creatives, artists, designers and special guests gathered to celebrate the launch of the Art Gallery of New South Wales summer blockbuster exhibition, JAPAN SUPERNATURAL.
Guests arrived at the gallery to a ‘floral carpet’, designed by esteemed Australian Japanese designer Akira Isogawa, and enjoyed a night filled with champagne, food, traditional Japanese drumming, music, and special appearances from international sensation Takashi Murakami, and fellow exhibiting artists Chiho Aoshima and Fuyuko Matsui.
Guests were invited to an exclusive preview of the exhibition, featuring over 180 artworks, making it the largest Japanese art exhibition in the gallery’s history.
JAPAN SUPERNATURAL immerses the audience in Japanese yokai (ghost) folklore and culture, featuring a lineage of works spanning 300 years, from historical ukiyo-e masters Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, to the contemporary 10-metre Murakami artwork commissioned specifically for the exhibition.
Attendees included; Kellie Hush, Yasmin Suteja, Dina Broadhurst, Dr. Lisa Cooper, Lucy Hinkfuss, Danny Clayton, Rachel Tee Tyler, Daphne Nguyen, Icy Ling, Kelvin Ho, Sarsha Simone Fleur Egan, as well as prominent Australian Fashion Designers Luke Sales and Frida Las Vegas
